Become a Regional Ovarian Cancer Co-ordinator

partnershipOvacome has a network of volunteers who represent the charity at local and regional level.

These are our Regional Ovarian Cancer Coordinators (ROCCs) who take our information into GP surgeries and hospital clinics, make contact with local health professionals, talk about ovarian cancer to local groups, support fundraising and help to run our Fone Friends service.

The ROCCs give their time to help Ovacome alongside The Eve Appeal, a charity that raises funds for research into ovarian cancer, in a special partnership that benefits everyone. The project is funded by Boots.Regional ovarian cancer co-ordinators are volunteers who represent the two charities The Eve Appeal in partnership with Ovacome at local level.

The ROCC has an agreed geographical area, such as a county, and within that will lead other supporters, volunteers and fundraisers for The Eve Appeal and Ovacome.

The ROCC's role is to:

1. Co-ordinate the local Fone Friends service. Manage a list of Fone Friends contacts and match individual callers with appropriate Fone Friends.

2. Represent The Eve Appeal and/or Ovacome at local events.

3. Receive donations on behalf of The Eve Appeal and/or Ovacome.

4. Support local fundraising events organised by the charities volunteers.

5. Make positive links with local health services used by women with ovarian cancer.

6. Distribute materials supplied by The Eve Appeal and Ovacome to hospitals, clinics, gynaecology and oncology services, nurse specialists and other health professionals.

7. Respond to requests for information from local newspapers and radio.

8. Attend training as required by The Eve Appeal in partnership with Ovacome.

9. Keep a formal written record of all work undertaken, telephone calls, emails and letters.

10. Adhere to the procedures and policies of The Eve Appeal in partnership with Ovacome.

11. Respect the confidentiality of the organisations and their clients at all times.

We do not necessarily expect you to carry out all these tasks personally. You may wish to form a team of local supporters and delegate some of this work, or you may want to have a deputy to support you. We accept that ROCCs will fulfil the role description in a variety of ways and we will support you in this.
